Milni (Sikh)

The two families formally meet at the Gurdwara before the Anand Karaj, beginning with Ardas.

Also known as: sikh milni, milni

What it means

The Milni ('meeting') unites the two families. It opens with an Ardas (prayer), then counterpart elders from each side meet, embrace, and exchange garlands and gifts — the families joining before the marriage itself.

What happens

  1. 1Families gather at the Gurdwara in the morning, often over tea and breakfast.
  2. 2An Ardas is offered, then matching relatives are introduced and garland one another.
  3. 3Everyone then enters the main hall for the Anand Karaj.
